Squam Lake, famously known as the filming location for the 1981 movie On Golden Pond, is a pristine, 6,791-acre body of water in New Hampshire's Lakes Region. Originally named Keeseenunknipee ("goose lake in the highlands"), it is the second-largest lake located entirely within New Hampshire. Known for its crystal-clear water, it offers serene, scenic beauty, featuring over 30 named islands and a protected habitat for loons and bald eagles.

"On Golden Pond" FameThe 1981 Oscar-winning film was shot here, cementing its reputation as a peaceful, idyllic getaway.

Name EvolutionThe lake has had multiple names over the centuries, including Keeseenunknipee (1779) and Asquam (early 1800s), which means "water".

Natural WondersFormed by glaciers roughly 15,000 years ago, the lake is surrounded by mountain ranges, including the easily accessible West Rattlesnake Mountain, which offers panoramic views of the water.
